Gifts of Grain – A unique and fruitful way to give

For generations, farmers have fed families across the country, and a gift of grain allows that same hard work to grow a stronger future right here in Poweshiek County.

The Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation (GPCF) accepts gifts of grain and the process is simple.  Rather than selling grain and donating the proceeds, the farmer (donor) gives the corn/beans directly to Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation at the elevator or storage warehouse without selling the commodity.   The staff at GPCF sells the grain and the proceeds are directed to a charitable fund chosen by the donor.  Depending on individual circumstances, this may reduce a donor’s taxable income associated with the sale of the grain.  Because every farm and tax situation is different, GPCF encourages farmers to talk with their tax advisor to determine whether a gift of grain is right for them.

Gifts of grain can provide support to any charitable fund at the GPCF, including a new fund. Donating grain to GPCF to create a fund, support a favorite nonprofit, or strengthen local charitable causes is a way to make a lasting difference.
